BELLEVILLE – The showdown Senior Legion District 22 baseball game between Metro East and Belleville will have to wait until Wednesday night.
It was rained out here Monday. The Bears and Hilgards were originally scheduled to play at Moore Park in Alton. Wet weather caused them to move it to Whitey Herzog Field in Belleville, but rain was the only winner.
So Metro East will play Belleville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Moore Park. The Bears are 9-1 in league action and 19-5 overall. The Hilgards are 6-2 and 26-7. While Metro East also has to play Collinsville this week, Belleville has a total of four District 22 games remaining.
The Bears will go Collinsville late Wednesday night following the home game with Belleville. Metro East defeated Collinsville, 1-0, earlier this season in Alton, so that's why the Bears have to play the second game in Collinsville. It figures to start at least 45 minutes after the end of the Metro East-Belleville game..
District 22 players are slated to participate Tuesday night in the Illinois-Missouri All-Star game. It’s slated for 7:30 at GCS Ballpark in Sauget.
Tommy Flack, Casey Fair, Nick Paulda, Austin Stilts and Drew Curtis will represent the Bears in the All-Star affair.
League playoffs are scheduled to start Sunday in the seven-team District 22. If Metro East defeats Belleville on Wednesday, the Bears will be the regular-season champion and have home field advantage for the playoffs.
Following the double-elimination district playoffs, the Fifth Division Tournament unfolds at New Baden. Arlington Heights of Chicagoland is welcoming the state tourney and the Great Lakes Regional is set for Terre Haute, Ind.
