The District 22 championship game is set, but the time and venue has changed.
The Metro East Bears and Belleville Hilgards will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Bethalto Sports Complex. Due to a scheduling conflict, the game has been shifted from its original site at Lloyd Hopkins Field inside Gordon Moore Park.
Belleville advanced to the District 22 title tilt by blanking rival Fairview Heights 6-0 on Thursday at Whitey Herzog Field in Belleville. The win avenged an earlier loss in the playoffs to the Giants and eliminated them from play.
The Hilgards have one loss under their belt in the tournament, while the Bears are undefeated. A win by Metro East tonight wraps up the District 22 crown, but if Belleville prevails there will be a winner-take-all contest at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Moore Park.
The victor advances to the Fifth Division Tournament in Carmi beginning on Monday. The District 22 representative's first game in Carmi is at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
