The Metro East Bears got a little revenge today at the American Legion Senior State Tournament.
After losing to Mattoon on Wednesday, the Bears rebounded on Friday afternoon to wallop Mattoon 18-5 in seven innings and remain alive in the double elimination tournament.
Metro East improves to 26-7 with the win and advances to face the loser between Elgin and Northwest, which are playing now. The Bears game follows the conclusion of that game at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will be an elimination game.
Aaron Jackson picked up the win on the hill, tossing all seven innings.
The offense exploded, led by Jordan Hovey, who had two hits and four RBIs all coming on a grand slam. Connor Melton had three hits and three RBIs, Maverick McSparin had three hits and two RBIs, Chance Foss was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, Caleb Buhs had two hits including a double and a RBI and Nick Paulda cracked a pair of doubles.
