ALTON – Dozens of athletes competed in the St. Louis Storm-sponsored youth track meet Sunday at Public School Stadium.
But none of them achieved what LaJarvia Brown did on Wigger Track.
The AHS sophomore, the IHSA 3A triple jump state champion last month at Charleston, continued her winning ways. She participated in four events and finished first in all of them.
Brown was best in the long jump (17 feet, 11 inches), the triple jump (39-11), the 100-meters (12.73 seconds) and the 200-meters (26.3). And she wasn’t the lone Alton athlete to celebrate success.
Katie Mans, the Alton Middle School state champion in the high jump, won the event by going 5-2 in a talent-laden invitational. Alexis James was best in the shot put (32-6) and the discus (90-6). In addition, Jamar Williams was tops in the long jump (20-3) and the triple jump (43-0).
Alton’s Jeanea Epps, Tyriss Holloway and Terrance Walker also fared well in the 100-meters.
“Sunday’s meet was a huge success,” said AHS girls coach Terry Mitchell, one of the coordinators for it. “We had approximately 800 athletes compete in the meet.”
