MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – For the second consecutive year inclement weather has shortened the Ohio Valley Men's Golf Championship. Taylor Cox tied for 14th place and SIUE finished sixth in the 36-hole event at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals.
Play was halted twice because of lightning during Sunday's final round. The first delay came just after noon and lasted 1:34. Play was stopped just before 3 p.m. for good. Because there were four groups who hadn't yet completed nine holes, the scoring reverted to what it was at the end of the second round. The championship was shortened to 36 holes last year and also in 2011.
The Cougars combined to shoot 598. Jacksonville State won the event with a 567, and earned the OVC's automatic bid to NCAA regionals. Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay finished in a second-place tie with a 36-hole score of 573.
Cox had a one-over par 73 Saturday and tied for 14th with a 145. Mitchell Homb tied for 20th with a 149. Taylor White finished at 151 and tied for 28th. Jordan Peters tied for 36th with a 153. Dalton Charboneau tied for 41st with a 156.
Marco Iten of Austin Peay was the medalist with a 136 (-8) and earned the automatic bid to NCAA regionals. Camilo Aguado of Jacksonville State finished a stroke back in second place. Teammate Tomasz Anderson finished third with a 139 (-5).
