EDWARDSVILLE — SIUE Freshmen Brady Dixon and Parker Lawrence tied for 13th place and SIUE men's golf finished ninth at the Derek Dolenc Invitational presented by DoubleTree. The season-opening tournament, hosted by SIUE, was completed Tuesday at Sunset Hills Country Club.
Dixon carded rounds of 74-70-76 (220), while Lawrence, playing as an individual, turned in rounds of 73-75-72 (220) to tie for 13th of 87 total golfers.
Oral Roberts captured the team title with a combined 879. The Golden Eagle led the tournament from start to finish. UT Martin and Missouri State each finished a stroke behind ORU to take second with an 880. Murray State (887) and Belmont (888) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Belmont's Ashton Van Horne took home medalist honors with a combined 212. Bradley's Lyle Burns, who finished sixth overall, fired a tournament-record low round of 66 Tuesday.
SIUE also had three other individuals playing. Colin McCarty, who missed all of 2013-14 due to injury, tied for 34th with a combined 226. Freshmen Austin Glendinning (240) and Spencer Underwood (250) were 79th and 86th, respectively.
SIUE will play Sunday and Monday at Illinois State's D.A. Weibring Invitational.
