The annual East Alton-Wood River vs. Roxana alumni men’s and women’s soccer game is scheduled for Saturday at the Wood River Soccer and Skate Park. The women’s alumni game is at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men’s game at 12:30 p.m.
The Oilers will take on the Shells in a crosstown varsity rivalry at 2:30 p.m. following the alumni game. EA-WR is coming off its first regional championship in 2014 and is currently on a five-game winning streak, sitting at 12-3-1 this season. Roxana is sitting at 6-8-1 on the season overall and 3-4 in the South Central Conference. The Shells are coming off an impressive 6-0 win over Gillespie on Wednesday in SCC action.
Anyone who played soccer for either of these programs is welcome to play in the alumni game. The cost is $15 to play and this includes a shirt. All players must wear shinguards. All proceeds go to benefit the Wood River and Roxana boys' and girls' soccer programs.
This will be the 12th year for the men’s game and the fifth year for the women’s game. The Wood River Soccer Parents will have barbecue on sale that day also. Anyone interested in playing needs to contact Matt Herndon at mherndon@wrh15.org or via the alumni soccer Facebook page at EAWR/Roxana Soccer Alumni.
The Wood River Fire Department is also putting on its annual fish fry on Saturday. Fire fighters will make deliveries to the soccer park for those who can't break away from the action. The WRFD makes donations to both the EA-WR and Roxana Booster Clubs.
