Class 1A Playoffs at East Alton Ice Rink
Alec Revelle had two goals in the first and second period Monday night to lead the Oilers to victory over Marquette Catholic 5-1.
Marquette, 3-10-5, has tied with the Oilers twice this season, losing to them once before this season by a single goal.
“It’s been a rough season for us; we’ve had a lot of injuries,” Marquette coach John Dumoulin said. “The teams finally come back together and we were just a little slow getting off the mark tonight. We have a good team but the effort just wasn’t there.”
Blake Weishaupt, Seth Chester and Tyler McHatton each contributed one for the Oilers as well.
EA-WR, the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 3 Marquette in game two Thursday at the East Alton Ice Rink.
Game Three, if necessary, is set for 8:45 p.m. Feb. 18.
Class 2A Playoffs at East Alton Ice Rink
With three goals in the first period, the Edwardsville Tigers ran away 8-0 quickly with Monday night’s opening playoff game at the East Alton Ice Rink.
“We knew that we had our hands full coming into tonight's game,” Bethalto coach Drew Retzer said. “Edwardsville is a good team and if you don't bring your A game, they'll capitalize.”
The Eagles were left scoreless at the end of the game as the Tigers once again netted three more goals in the second period.
“At times we definitely showed that we can play with them; we were just inconsistent,” Retzer said. “There are some positives from tonight that we'll take into Thursday's game and hopefully we can keep the season alive.”
In the final period the Tigers put in two more goals to solidify their victory. The two teams will meet again in game two, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Thursday. A tie-breaker game, if needed, will be played at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 18.
