Basketball | Makenzie Silvey
Silvey is off to a blazing start in her final year with the Edwardsville girls’ basketball team.
The senior is averaging 15.4 points per game after five games and helped the Tigers get off to a 5-0 start entering this week.
She earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Springfield Southeast Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 26 and scored a team-high 18 points against Collinsville in the Tigers’ Southwestern Conference opener on Dec. 1.
The strong efforts earned Silvey this week’s Edwardsville AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Silvey is picking up right where she left off from last year, when she averaged 16 points per game and earned all-Southwestern Conference honors.
She scored in double figures in all four games of the Springfield Southeast tournament, including a 21-point effort against East St. Louis in the championship game.
Against Collinsville, Silvey scored 15 of her points in the first half. She also hit four 3-pointers.
Silvey plans to continue her basketball career at Southern Illinois University Carbondale next year.
