Track and Field | Kathryn Butler
Butler, a freshman from Metro East Lutheran, played a big part in the Knights winning the Green Division girls’ championship during the small-school Madison County Track Meet on April 25 at Roxana.
Butler won the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.60 seconds and finished second in the 300-meter low hurdles at 54.20. She also ran on the Knights’ 4x200-meter (1:54.20) and 4x400-meter relay (5:03.20) teams that finished second to Madison and Civic Memorial, respectively.
MELHS scored 63 points to outdo Madison (54 points) and CM (51 points) for the small-school team title. The Knights won five events in all, including three in the field events.
“It was the biggest win of our season and great for our kids,” Knights’ coach David Moldenhauer said. “Obviously, it was a team effort.”
Metro opened this week with the Prairie State Conference Tournament on Monday at East Alton-Wood River High School. It was combined boys and girls. The MELHS girls’ track and field team is gearing up for the Class 1A Sparta Sectional on Friday, May 13.
