Track and Field | Travis Anderson
Anderson, a junior for the Edwardsville Tigers, was a key cog in the boys’ track and field program’s run to a second-place finish at the 3A state meet on May 28 at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium.
Anderson competed in three events and won an individual state title, leading to him being named the Edwardsville AdVantage News Athlete of the Week.
The junior trackster won the 110-meter high hurdles in 13.71 seconds and finished third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 38.04 seconds. He also contributed to the 4x100-meter relay team for the Tigers, running the third leg. The EHS quartet finished in sixth place with a time of 42.14 seconds.
Altogether, Anderson helped tally 21 of Edwardsville’s 42 team points. It was good enough to be runner-up behind Southwestern Conference rival East St. Louis, which won the 3A crown with 54 points. Orland Park Sandburg was third with 40 points.
