ALTON — Marquette Catholic High honored Explorer legend Craig Hentrich on Saturday night at Public School Stadium.
Marquette retired Hentrich's No. 15 jersey at halftime of its home opener against the Mater Dei Knights. The Explorers lost the game 35-14, but the night belonged to Hentrich.
Coaches, teammates and fans were there to honor the former kicker/punter who went on to star at Notre Dame and then with the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans during a 16-year NFL career as a punter. He played in three Super Bowls and two Pro Bowls in his career. Hentrich won a Super Bowl in '97 with the Packers.
Hentrich was an All-American during his time at Marquette and went on to become the only kicker/punter to earn a full scholarship to Notre Dame.
He graduated from the Explorer program in 1989.
