ALTON FALLS TO BELLEVILLE WEST — The Alton Redbirds welcomed the Belleville West Maroons for Senior Night at Public School Stadium on Friday, losing 41-20.
AHS concluded the 2015 campaign 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the Southwestern Conference. Six of the nine teams the Redbirds faced are playoff eligible, including the Maroons who finished 5-4 and 5-2 in the SWC.
Alton climbed as close as 35-20 after scoring three third-quarter touchdowns. Asa Collins notched two TD runs of 65 yards and 1 yard. The Birds' other score came on a 25-yard TD connection throw the air between quarterback Keenan Stegall and Matt McDonald.
OILERS CAN'T GET BY NOKOMIS — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers battled the Nokomis Redskins at Memorial Stadium on Friday, falling 41-14 in their finale.
EA-WR finished up 1-8 and 1-6 in the Prairie State Conference. Nokomis completed the season at 4-5 and 4-3 in the PSC.
The Oilers tallied both their touchdowns in the fourth quarter on passes from quarterback Justin Englar. Englar connected with Chandler Eckhoff on a 15-yard strike and Zach Womack on a 55-yard connection.
Zach Kincade directed the defense on Friday, while Zach Wells picked up an interception for EA-WR.
EDWARDSVILL BLANKS GCHS — The Edwardsville Tigers visited Granite City High on Friday and blanked the Warriors 49-0 on their Senior Night.
With the loss, Granite City wraps up the season at 2-7 and 0-7 in the Southwestern Conference. Edwardsville remained perfect with the win, improving to 9-0 and 7-0 on the league slate.
The Tigers are headed to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season.
