PANA 69, ROXANA 18 — The Shells dropped a lopsided affair on the road Friday in South Central Conference action.
With the loss Roxana dipped to 0-2 on the season, while Pana improved to 2-0.
The scoring for the Shells came off of an 86-yard kickoff return TD by Joey Johnson, a 7-yard TD run by Johnson and a 9-yard rushing score by Wyatt Kirkpatrick.
Johnson and Kirkpatrick paced Roxana on the ground, each rushing for 54 yards. Jordan Hawkins added 45 yards rushing.
Ethan Arnold highlighted the defense with 8 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles and 1 interception.
The Shells now battle Hillsboro at 7 p.m. in Week 3 for their home opener at Charlie Raich Field.
TAYLORVILLE 45, EA-WR 6 — Taylorville visited Memorial Stadium on Friday and handed the Oilers their first loss of the season, dropping them to 1-1.
Taylorville jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first two minutes of the game and EA-WR couldn't recover.
The lone score for the Oilers came on a 2-yard TD run by Zach Womack. For the game, Womack had 13 rushes for 70 yards and the score.
Zach Wells had a good game on the defensive end. He had 3 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles to go along with a pair of interceptions.
EA-WR opens Prairie State Conference play in Week 3, heading to Bunker Hill.
LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 49, MELHS 6 — Lighthouse Christian visited from Springfield, Mo. on Friday and earned a lopsided victory over the Knights.
MELHS fell to 0-2 with the loss. It's only score came in the fourth quarter on a 78-yard rushing TD by Fa'Shaun Merritt. He accrued 92 total rushing yards in the game to lead the Knights.
Darrien Miller had 10 tackles to pace the Metro defense.
MELHS begins Prairie State Conference action in Week 3, playing host to Kincaid South Fork at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Madison High.
GRANITE CITY VS. CARBONDALE RESCHEDULED — Friday night's contest between the Warriors and Terriers in Carbondale was postponed due to a water main break at the school.
The game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Carbondale. Granite City is looking to recover from a Week 1 loss in Jerseyville.
