ROXANA BLANKS STAUNTON TO SECURE PLAYOFF BERTH — The Roxana Shells secured their second straight postseason berth in fine fashion on Friday, pummeling Staunton 52-0 on the road.
The win elevated the Shells to 6-2 on the season, while the meddling Bulldogs sank to 0-8.
Sophomore fullback Jordan Hawkins was key once again, rushing for 112 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries, all in the first half.
Jarod Foiles added eight carries for 75 yards and a TD and Talon Pile went for 79 yards and a score on six carries. Backup fullback Wyatt Kirkpatrick produced 72 yards and two TDs on 12 carries, all in the second half.
Quarterback Zach Golenor was 1 for 1 through the air for 59 yards, but the one completion went for a touchdown connection with tight end Trace Gentry.
On defense, Brady Lewis picked up an interception, while Hawkins had five tackles, two for losses, Billy Mathis had three solo tackles and two assists and Foiles picked up six solo tackles, one assist, two for losses and a fumble recovery.
Roxana hits the road for Week 9, traveling to Southwestern before delving into the playoffs.
EA-WR FALLS IN PSC TO SOUTH FORK — East Alton-Wood River lost on the road in Prairie State Conference action Friday, stumbling at Kincaid (South Fork) 32-12.
The Oilers spiraled to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the PSC with the loss.
EA-WR wraps up the season at home in Week 9, playing host to Nokomis.
GRANITE CITY'S WOES CONTINUE — The Granite City Warriors suffered a 41-0 loss at the hands of the visiting Belleville West Maroons on Friday for their homecoming.
The Warriors have now dropped six straight after winning their first two games of the season. They are 2-6 overall and 0-6 in the Southwestern Conference.
