EDWARDSVILLE 19, O'FALLON 0 — The Tigers pushed their record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southwestern Conference during constant rain at the District 7 Sports Complex on Friday. O'Fallon dropped to 1-3 and 0-2 in the SWC with the loss.
The Tigers led 7-0 at the half and added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters to secure the shutout.
Running back Dionte Rodgers led the way with 149 yards rushing, while quarterback Brenden Dickmann had three TDs in the game, two passing and one rushing.
Rodgers snared a 20-yard TD pass from Dickmann in the second quarter. Dickmann then found Nathan Kolesa on a 16-yard strike in the third quarter and ran in a 15-yard score in the fourth quarter.
A.J. Epenesa blocked a Panther field goal attempt just before halftime to help secure the shutout, too.
Each team had three turnovers under the wet conditions.
EHS heads to Belleville East (1-3) at 7 p.m. in Week 5.
VANDALIA 16, ROXANA 14 — Wet conditions couldn't wash out Friday's game at Charlie Raich Field, but it was still a dreary night for the Shells.
Roxana dipped to 0-4 with a tough loss to the Vandals. A safety by Vandalia early in the fourth quarter was the difference, snapping a 14-14 tie.
The Shells got 14 carries for 143 yards and a score out of Joey Johnson and 20 carries for 92 yards from Jordan Hawkins in the running game.
Johnson broke a 95-yard TD run in the second quarter for Roxana's first score. The PAT was no good. Hawkins hauled in a 4-yard catch from Marcus Hartnett for the second TD. Hawkins ran in the 2-point conversion.
The two teams combined for 11 turnovers in the rain, the Shells with five and the Vandals with six.
Defensively, Roxana had seven tackles for losses. Hartnett and Michael Cherry had interceptions on the night, while Wyatt Kirkpatrick, Drew Huff, Chase Nassello and Ethan Arnold all had fumble recoveries.
Robby Williams collected 8 solo tackles and 1 assist, while Hartnett and Hawkins both had 5 solos and 1 assist and Arnold had 4 solos and 4 assists.
The Shells will try and climb in the win column in Week 5 at Greenville. The Comets' Week 4 game at Hillsboro was moved to 4 p.m. on Saturday. They enter the game at 2-1.
EAST ST. LOUIS 44, GRANITE CITY 0 — The SWC game between the Flyers and Warriors was called after three quarters due to lightning encompassing Kevin Greene Field.
Steady rain blanketed the field throughout the game, as freshman Freddy Edwards filled in for the injured Kendrick Williba at quarterback.
East Side improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the SWC with the win, while GCHS is now 2-2 and 1-1.
Granite City heads to Collinsville in Week 5. The Kahoks and Belleville West will meet at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for their Week 4 game which was rained out Friday night. Collinsville enters the game at 0-3.
NOKOMIS 7, MELHS 0 — The Knights played on the road in Prairie State Conference action Friday and dropped a tight contest.
Metro is now 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the PSC. The Redskins improved to 1-3 and 1-1 with the victory.
MELHS travels to East Alton-Wood River for Week 5. The Oilers meet Marquette Catholic at 1 p.m. Saturday for Week 4 action. EA-WR enters the game 2-1.
EA-WR, MARQUETTE, CM ALL PLAY SATURDAY — Mother Nature canceled Friday night games at Memorial Stadium in Wood River and Lewis Hauser Field in Bethalto.
The Oilers and Explorers will now meet at 1 p.m. on Saturday in PSC action in Wood River, while the Eagles battle the Jersey Panthers at 7 p.m. in a Mississippi Valley Conference opener in Bethalto.
EA-WR is 2-1, while Marquette is 1-2. In the other game CM is 2-1, while Jersey is 1-2.
