CARLINVILLE — Trace Gentry of Roxana High School and Blake Marks of East Alton-Wood River High have been chosen to play in a boys’ all-star basketball game.
Both of them will compete for the West squad in the 14th annual East-West Carlinville All-Star Basketball Classic on Sunday, March 20, at Carlinville High School. It will begin at 6:15 and there will be a dunk contest at halftime, followed by 3-point shooting competition afterward.
A girls’ all-star game also will be played on the same day, but no Greater Alton players are scheduled to participate. It's scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and a 3-point shooting contest will follow it.
Only seniors can play in both games.
Gentry is a 6-foot-2 guard, while Marks is a 6-1 guard. Other players on the West team include: Zac Ridenhour and Drake Kanallakan of Jersey, Evan Price and Eli Fox of Gillespie, Luke Gillingham and Cole Brannan of Carrollton, Joe Bates and Xavier Dunlap of Carlinville, Connor Shade and Austin Bishop of Greenfield/Palmyra Northwestern, Zack Seymour of Southwestern and Chase Bushnell of North Greene.
The East team includes: Conner Simmons, Josh Franke and Cooper Scharf of Litchfield, Austin Gusewelle and Corey Scroggins of Staunton, Tristan Bauer and Nate Weaver of Auburn, Cooper Etter and Brennan White of North Mac, A.J. Thomas and Bryan Graham of Raymond Lincolnwood, Jordan Hampton and Garrett Gillete of Pawnee, plus David Holden of Greenville.
Boys’ coaches will be announced at a later date. Steve Wooley of Southwestern is coaching the West team in the girls’ game.
