Marquette Catholic senior Nick Messinger came out on top in the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour July 30-31 at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, winning the boys 16-18 boys division.
Messinger shot a two-day score of 146 and won his division by eight strokes. Michael Brown of Smithfield, Ky., was second with a 154.
Messenger shot a 74 on the first day, which included five birdies. He had three bogeys and a pair of double bogeys, but he was still leading by two strokes.
The next day, Messinger shot a even-par 72, which included three birdies. He finished with eight birdies, 20 pars, six bogeys and two double bogeys.
Last year, Messinger helped the Marquette boys golf team placed seventh at the Class 2A state tournament. He was the Explorers’ top performer at state, finishing in a four-way tie for 18th with a 154.
