BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — SIUE golfer Alison Gorman of Rockford, Ill., has been named the Ohio Valley Conference’s women’s golfer of the week following her win Sunday at SIU Carbondale’s Saluki Shootout.
The junior won a three-hole playoff to take the inaugural event. In winning, Gorman became the first SIUE women’s golfer to earn medalist honors at the Division I level. She helped lead the Cougars to a second-place finish as a team, five strokes behind host SIU Carbondale.
Gorman finished the day with a combined 146, which established a new school record for an individual 36-hole total. Gorman finished in a tie atop the leader board with SIU Carbondale’s Mattie Lindner. Both golfers scored a par on each of the first two playoff holes. Lindner settled for a two-putt on the third hole while Gorman earned a birdie on the par-five final hole.
The Cougars return to the links Sept. 29-30 at the South Dakota Coyote Classic.
