Basketball | Addaya Moore
Moore came to the rescue for the Granite City Warriors girls’ basketball team on Jan. 19 against the Alton Redbirds on the road.
The Granite City junior scored 21 points, including the game-winning basket with five seconds left in the game, to lift the Warriors to a come-from-behind, 44-43 win over Alton for their second Southwestern Conference victory of the season. Moore finished with 12 points in the fourth quarter.
The effort earned Moore this week’s Granite City AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Moore helped the Warriors come back from a nine-point deficit with five minutes left in the game to pull off their second victory over the Redbirds. Moore scored a game-high 18 points in Granite City’s 43-31 win over Alton in the last meeting on Dec. 10 at Memorial Gymnasium.
Moore, a transfer from Riverview Gardens, is the Warriors’ top scorer at 18 points per game. She earned all-tournament honors at the Orchard Farm and Jersey tournaments and looks to do the same in Carrollton as the Warriors compete in the Carrollton Hawks Invitational this week.
