Lexi Grote | Soccer
Grote finished her junior season with the Granite City girls’ soccer team on a high note.
She became the first Granite City player in four years to be named to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-state team. She was the Warriors’ lone representative on the 60-member all-state team.
The honor helped Grote receive another award — Granite City AdVantage News Athlete of the Week.
Grote, a midfielder, was one of the Warriors’ top scorers with a career-high 10 goals and helped Granite City win its second straight regional title this year. So far in her high school career, Grote has 22 goals.
In addition to her all-state award, Grote earned first-team all-Southwestern Conference honors, making it the second year in a row she was named to the all-league team.
She became the first Granite City player since Mara Keomanivane in 2012 to be named all-state. She was one of 23 juniors on the IHSSCA all-state team.
