Track and Field | Andrea Hyde
Hyde is saving the best for last.
In a span of a week, the Granite City senior turned in strong performances in the sprint events at the Madison County championship meet, the Granite City Warrior Relays and Southwestern Conference championship meet.
Hyde won titles in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash and helped the 400- and 800-meter relays place first April 28 at the county meet. She also had first-place finishes in the 4x100, 4x200 and 100 at the Warrior Relays on April 29 and earned all-Southwestern Conference honors in the 4x100, 4x200 and 100 on May 4.
The efforts in all three meets earned Hyde this week’s Granite City AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Hyde, who is in her third season with the Granite City girls’ track team, helped the 4x100 and 4x200 teams set meet records at the county meet. She was the only Granite City athlete to win three events at the Warriors Relays. At the conference meet, Hyde helped both relay teams finish second to O’Fallon and placed third in the 100.
“The biggest thing I would say about Andrea is she is by far the hardest worker we’ve got,” Granite City assistant coach Fred Layne said. “She does every single drill and leads a lot of the stuff that we try to do and sets the pace. You can run her in four events or you can run her in two events and she will give you the same amount of effort in everything that she does and it’s showing.”
