Track and Field | Ron Allen
Ron Allen is enjoying a memorable senior year.
Last fall, the Granite City senior was named on the all-Southwestern Conference football team on both sides of the ball. Last winter, he was one of the top scorers of the boys’ basketball team and helped the Warriors win 14 games.
This spring, Allen is one of the top athletes of the boys’ track team. On Friday, he qualified for the state track meet for the first time after helping the 3,200-meter relay team place first in the Class 3A Collinsville Sectional. Allen ran the second leg of the relay team that finished with a 7:55.48.
The effort earned Allen this week’s Granite City AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Allen competed on a 4x800 team that included senior Juwan Riggins, junior Will O’Keefe and freshman Andrew O’Keefe. It’s the second year in a row Granite City qualified for state in that relay.
Last week, Allen helped the relay team finish first in the Southwestern Conference meet at Granite City. He’s one of three Granite City athletes — the others are Will and Andrew O’Keefe — who earned all-conference honors in two sports this year.
Allen is also one of just two Granite City seniors who competed in three sports this year.
