Football | Kendrick Williba
Williba was too much to handle for the Carbondale Terriers in Week 2 and the Belleville East Lancers in Week 3.
The Granite City quarterback helped his team pull off its first win of the season after rushing for 74 yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns and throwing for 103 yards with a touchdown in the Warriors’ 33-14 victory over the Terriers at Carbondale.
He followed that up with 103 yards rushing, 133 yards passing and 5 total TDs in a 63-49 victory at East. Unfortunately, Williba was carted off the field with a leg injury early in the second half. He should return to the field in a few weeks.
The efforts in the two games earned Williba this week’s Granite City AdVantage News Athlete of the Week award.
Williba scored two of his touchdowns in the second half against Carbondale. His eight-yard run in the third quarter broke a 14-14 tie. Against the Lancers, he had TD runs of 12, 6 and 39 yards and TD passes of 22 yards and 46 yards to freshman Freddie Edwards.
Williba, who is in his first full season as Granite City starting quarterback, has 11 total touchdowns this season. He scored a pair of TDs in the Warriors’ 39-35 loss at Jerseyville on Aug. 26.
Granite City welcomes Southwestern Conference powerhouse East St. Louis to Kevin Greene Field on Friday for Week 4.
