Baseball | Steven Pattan
Pattan is preparing to enter his senior year at Alton High School, where he was the starting shortstop as a junior on the varsity baseball team.
He also played summer baseball with the Metro East Bears, where he wrapped up his season on Aug. 7 at the Great Lakes Regional. For the Bears, Pattan shifted to catcher, a position he had not played since last summer. He transitioned flawlessly.
He caught every inning of every game at the Great Lakes Regional, as the Post 199/126 American Senior Legion squad advanced to the tournament finals for the second straight year.
Pattan excelled at the plate, going 8-for-8 over his first two games out of the No. 9 hole. He finished up the tournament hitting .600 (12-for-20), walked three times and had five RBIs.
His efforts helped the Bears go 3-2 in the regional and finish the season with a respectable 20-8 record.
Baseball | Drake Hampton
Hampton is a 2015 Alton High grad and recently finished up his freshman campaign at Lewis and Clark Community College.
For the second straight summer he was a key member of the Metro East Bears, too. Hampton played third base and pitched for the Post 199/126 squad and helped them reach the Great Lakes Regional finals for the second year in a row.
During the Great Lakes Regional, which ended on Aug. 6 at SIUE’s Roy E. Lee Field in Edwardsville, Hampton hit a robust .391 in five games (9-of-23) with a home run, two walks and 10 RBIs. The homer was a grand slam in the opening game of the tournament on Aug. 3 against Pickerington, Ohio.
Hampton also pitched for the Bears in the regional, earning one start, but unfortunately took the loss on the mound.
