Bowling | Tyler Stevenson
Stevenson, a junior on the Alton boys’ bowling squad, enjoyed the game of his life at the Alton Invite on Dec. 23 at Airport Bowl in Bethalto.
Stevenson rolled the first perfect game of his young career, a 300, during the second game of his 643 series.
“I was just shocked when I got it,” said Stevenson, who bowled a 290 game recently against Belleville East. “I never thought I would do it, but I did. The 10th frame was pretty nerve-wracking.”
Stevenson earned the tournament’s high-game award for his flawless effort.
As a squad, the Redbirds turned in an 11th-place effort, compiling 5,599 pins. Collinsville corralled the team title with 6,162 total pins.
Basketball | Adam Hill
Civic Memorial’s senior point guard, Hill, proved to be the floor general in the Eagles’ 70-44 victory over Sparta to open the Columbia/Freeburg Holiday Tournament on Dec. 26 in Columbia.
Hill paced the Eagles with a team-high 10 points, 4 steals and 4 assists, while also playing staunch defense. CM forced Sparta into 23 turnovers in the lopsided win.
“We were in our man-to-man press and got some easy steals and baskets,” Hill said. “I love to play that style.”
Altogether 10 Eagles contributed to the offense in the victory. The unselfish Hill liked seeing the opening performance from his team.
“We’re pretty deep with our bench,” Hill added.
