Pace, a 6-foot-1 senior post player for the Marquette Catholic Explorers, was a key contributor in three wins last week.
Pace scored 52 points and yanked down 24 rebounds in the trio of victories for an average of 17.3 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Her biggest performance came on Jan. 7 when she recorded a game-high 26 points and 13 rebounds in a big 58-40 win over Nokomis in Prairie State Conference action.
The Explorers entered the week with a 3-0 mark in the PSC.
For the season, Pace is averaging a team-high 10.1 ppg. to go with 4.8 rpg. She is second on the team to twin sister Brittany in rebounds. Brittany averages 4.9 rpg.
After a 71-43 loss to Mater Dei on Monday, Marquette had a 7-11 record on the season. The Explorers had a big PSC date with Mount Olive on Thursday.
KeOntay Holmes | Wrestling
Holmes, a junior for the Alton High wrestling program, secured the title at 182 pounds at the 37th Annual Jim Newbill Wrestling Tournament in Geneva on Jan. 9.
Holmes joined teammate Connor Broyles (132) to win an individual championship and help propel the Redbirds into second place as a team at the tournament. They compiled 121.5 points to trail only team champ Harlem High with 146.5 points.
Holmes, who earned a first-round bye, picked up a major decision over Cole Campbell of Geneva, a decision over Plainfield Central’s Jake May and then pinned West Chicago’s Trey Lally in the finals.
Holmes is an honorable mention in the state at 182 pounds. His win at Geneva comes on the heels of a second-place finish at the Mascoutah Invite and a third-place medal at the William “Red” Schmitt Holiday Tournament in Granite City.
