Bowling | Jacob Donahue

Donahue led the Birds with 1,395 pins at sectionals, highlighted by his perfect 300 during his fourth game. His overall performance earned him the seventh-best score of the day. He had the only 300 at sectionals, earning him the high score for the tournament.
As a team, Alton compiled 6,285 pins to finish in fifth place. The top six teams at sectionals advanced to state. Collinsville won the field with 6,795 pins.
Donahue and his Redbird teammates are back in action at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon for state beginning at 9:45 a.m. on Friday. State concludes on Saturday.
Basketball | Maurice Edwards
A junior for the Alton boys’ basketball team, Edwards got a chance to show off his talents in style in front of a packed house at Cardinal Ritter High School in St. Louis on Jan. 23.
Edwards scored a game-high 24 points, highlighted by the game-winning shot in a 61-60 victory over St. Mary’s of St. Louis.
Edwards found the ball in his hands with the Redbirds trailing the Dragons 60-59. His mid-range jumper with 8 seconds to go in the game catapulted AHS in front and then the defensive stance stood up for the win.
“I had a feeling I was going to take it, because my teammates, I think they all wanted me to take it,” Edwards said. “I had been hitting all night and it was just the way I’d been playing all night.
“I was feeling it all game. I just wanted to play aggressive and lead my team to the win.”
