Swimming | Christian Aragona
Aragona is a senior-to-be and swimmer at the University of Missouri. He earns AdVantage News Athlete of the Week honors after participating in the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., on July 1.
The Godfrey native and former swimmer for the TCAY Tidalwaves and Summers-Port Sharks unfortunately did not advance out of the first round in the men’s 50-meter freestyle. He turned in a time of 23.46 seconds, which left him tied for 106th place.
A Metro East Lutheran High grad, Aragona’s seed time was 23.06.
Aragona earned first-team All-American honors at Mizzou as a junior as part of the seventh-place finishing 200-meter freestyle relay at the NCAA Championships.
His best time of 19.97 in the 50 free came during his junior campaign, ranking him ninth all-time in the event for the Tigers.
Baseball | Logan Reardon
Reardon, a 2015 Roxana High grad, is back with the Twin City Baseball Club in ‘16 and putting together a solid campaign.
Reardon, who just finished his freshman season at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, helped the South Roxana Post 1167 team win the Greater Midwest Baseball World Series in St. Louis on July 1-4. Twin City went 4-0 in the tournament to nab the championship.
Reardon contributed on the mound and at the plate in the tourney. He was 4-for-10 at the plate with 6 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, 3 walks and 5 runs scored. He also picked up a save on the mound in Twin City’s second win on July 1.
On the season, Reardon is hitting .347 with 5 doubles, 13 RBIs, 8 runs scored and 9 stolen bases. On the mound he’s 4-0 with 2 saves, a 1.08 ERA and 41 strikeouts to 8 walks in 30.1 innings pitched.
