A junior running back for the East Alton-Wood River football team, Womack has been crucial in the Oilers’ 2-1 start to the 2016 season.
Womack earns AdVantage News Athlete of the Week honors after being a key cog in EA-WR’s 44-24 victory in Week 3 at Bunker Hill for the Prairie State Conference opener.
Womack led the Oilers in rushing with 178 yards on 15 carries. That’s a whopping 11.8 yards per carry. He also scored on a 16-yard run with 1:27 remaining in the first half to give EA-WR a 26-6 halftime cushion.
A long weather delay plagued the game at Bunker Hill, but Womack and his teammates were able to remain focused and finish the win. After an approximately 90-minute delay, play resumed early in the second quarter.
Treven Swingler | Football
Swingler, a sophomore for the Marquette Catholic football team, turned in a stellar performance in Week 3’s 44-15 rout of Nokomis to open Prairie State Conference play on Sept. 10.
Swingler has been a key component as a running back and as a defensive back. His offensive performance vs. Nokomis earns him AdVantage News Athlete of the Week honors.
He rushed for a career-high 229 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns. That calculates to 14.3 yards per carry. Swingler had TD runs of 8 and 15 yards in the third quarter.
Those scores came after the Explorers entered the locker room trailing the Redskins 7-0. Swingler also had two rushing TDs in a Week 2 loss to Mater Dei. On the season he has a team-leading 314 yards rushing and 4 TDs.
Marquette (1-2) heads to EA-WR (2-1) in Week 4.
