Golf | Griffin Parko
Parko, a junior on the East Alton-Wood River boys’ golf team, hit the shot of his lifetime on Sept. 16, earning him Athlete of the Week honors.
Parko was participating in his first varsity golf match for the Oilers at Lone Oak Golf Course in Carrollton when he buried a hole-in-one on the par-3 hole No. 3 there.
Parko utilized his 9-iron to complete the ace shot from 180 yards out.
For the day, Parko fired a 42.
It’s only his second season playing golf. He played junior varsity for the Alton Redbirds a year ago.
The Oilers had a quad with Southwestern, Roxana and Mascoutah on Wednesday at Rolling Hills and played host to a quad with Marquette Catholic, Roxana and Jersey on Thursday at Belk Park. Next up is a quad with Civic Memorial, Litchfield and Jersey at Belk on Sept. 29.
Golf | Jake Sconce
Sconce is a junior on the Civic Memorial Eagles’ varsity boys’ golf squad.
He earns Athlete of the Week accolades after stroking an ace on Sept. 17 at Tamarack Country Club in O’Fallon.
Sconce’s hole-in-one happened on hole No. 17 at Tamarack, a par-3 hole. He used his 7-iron to sink the shot from 133 yards out.
For the day Sconce carded a 50, tying for the fourth score for the Eagles in the dual with O’Fallon. As a team CM shot 172, 10 strokes off the pace of the host Panthers, who won the dual.
The Eagles were 13-3 on the season after the dual with O’Fallon. They competed in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday at Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River.
CM next hits the course at Belk against East Alton-Wood River, Litchfield and Jersey on Sept. 29.
