Gerhardt, a senior running back and defensive back for the Civic Memorial Eagles, has been a key cog in their 2-0 start to the season.
In Week 2’s 46-15 victory over Salem, Gerhardt rushed for 75 yards and 2 touchdowns on 10 carries. He was part of a CM rushing attack that accumulated 368 yards on the ground in the game. Nick Newell led the Eagles with 130 yards rushing in the win.
Gerhardt also had an interception and three tackles on defense to help earn him AdVantage News Athlete of the Week honors.
Through the first two games, Gerhardt leads the CM scoring punch with 3 TDs and a pair of 2-point conversions. He’s rushed for 166 yards and owns 6 solo tackles on defense.
The Eagles (2-0) visit Mount Zion (1-1) in Week 3 for a big test on the season.
Tennis | Sydney Owsley
A senior girls’ tennis player for the Roxana Shells, Owsley enjoyed solid play last week to earn her AdVantage News Athlete of the Week honors.
The 2015 AdVantage News Co-Player of the Year for girls’ tennis, Owsley started the week on Aug. 29 by defeating rival Shelby Jones of Marquette Catholic in a No. 1 singles match. The win helped the Shells squeak by the Explorers 5-4 in the dual.
After dropping the first set 6-2, Owsley recovered to win the second set 6-3 and the third in a tiebreaker 7-6 (10-6).
She was also the only Roxana player to win multiple matches in the rugged 37-team Heather Bradshaw Invitational on Sept. 2-3 hosted by the Edwardsville Tigers.
The scorching Shells entered this week with a 4-0 record in dual matches on the season.
