Mid-Illinois Gymnastics competitors MacKenzie Butler and Amber Exton returned from the U.S. Tumbling and Trampoline National Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., this past week with two top 10 trophies apiece.
Both competed for three days and qualified for top 10 finals in Advanced and Elite Tumbling. Butler was third in Advanced (age 13-14) and third in Elite (open age group). Exton was first in Advanced (age 15-16) and fifth in Elite (open age).
They also worked very hard all year and were selected to the USTA National Team after top placements in very competitive meets in December, January and February. National Team members participated in a demonstration for the Parade of Champions and Award Ceremonies for the entire group and they will go together to camp in Colorado in September. Four other Mid-Illinois gymnasts also received top 10 trophies.
Allison Jennings was First in Novice 8; Emerson Isringhausen was fourth in Sub Novice 6; Madison Honke was seventh in Novice 10; and Kaitlyn Beilsmith was 10th in Intermediate 13-14. There were up to eight flights of 10 in each level and age group. All competitors qualified for Nationals by placing in the top 10 of their age and level at their respective state championships. Six other Mid-Illinois gymnasts participated in Nationals. They were Lauren Weiner (16th Sub Advanced 13-14); Laney Sebold (17th Intermediate 11-12); Megan Stewart (16th Sub Novice 8); Allison Wooden (16th Sub Novice 9); Paige Matheny (23rd Intermediate 13-14) and Annie Walker (29th Intermediate 13-14).
