ALTON RACES PAST COMANCHES IN CENTRALIA — The Alton Redbirds earned their spot in the semifinals at the Centralia Holiday Tournament on Tuesday by racing past Cahokia with a 94-61 win.
Alton led 26-8 after one quarter and 52-24 at halftime as it cruised to victory. The win improved the Redbirds to 10-1 on the season. It was their sixth straight win.
The Comanches dropped to 5-7 with the loss.
Carlos Anderson paced the Birds with a game-high 17 points. Darrius Edwards, 15 points, and Bryan Hudson, 12 points, joined Anderson in double figures.
Alton plays O'Fallon at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semis. The Panthers beat Chicago Bogan in the quarterfinals on Tuesday to create the matchup with their Southwestern Conference rival Redbirds.
ROXANA EARNS THIRD PLACE IN TRI-CITY — The Roxana Shells earned third place at the Buffalo Tri-City Holiday Tournament on Tuesday with a 43-33 win over Pawnee.
The Shells improved to 9-7 on the season with the win.
Hannah Rexford scored 14 points to pace Roxana, while Maddy Sheraka chipped in 12 and Erica Sheets scored eight.
Sheraka and Sheets garnered all-tournament honors for the Shells.
MARQUETTE LOSES TO MOUNT OLIVE IN LEBANON — The Marquette Catholic Explorers dropped a 75-44 contest to Mount Olive Tuesday in the third-place game of the Lebanon Holiday Tournament.
Andria Pace scored 22 points to guide the Explorers while her twin sister Brittany Pace added 10 points to complement her in the loss.
EA-WR SLIPS UP VS. BUNKER HILL IN CARLINVILLE — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers fell behind early and ultimately lost to Bunker Hill 54-43 in the fifth-place showdown of the Carlinville Holiday Tournament.
The loss sank the Oilers to 5-11, while the Minutemaids improved to 7-9 with the triumph.
EA-WR found itself behind 14-1 after one quarter and could never rebound.
Brandi Lacey directed the Oilers with 19 points behind a trio of 3-pointers, while Kari Westbrook added 10 points in the loss.
