On Thursday afternoon the IHSA released the regional and sectional assignments for boys' and girls' basketball and wrestling.
Local teams will be cast in sites both near and far, although the ranking for the subsectionals for basketball won't be released late January and early February.
Starting with wrestling, which will have the first postseason, Alton and Granite City will be cast in the Class 3A Quincy Regional. The individual sectional will be in Bolingbrook, while the dual team sectional site is yet to be determined.
In 2A, the Civic Memorial Eagles will compete in the Triad Regional, the Mahomet Seymour Individual Sectional and the Mattoon Dual Team Sectional.
East Alton-Wood River and Roxana are cast in the Class 1A Althoff Regional, the Carterville Individual Sectional and the Litchfield Dual Team Sectional.
For girls' basketball, Alton and Granite City are included in sub-sectional A of the 4A Alton Sectional. The two regional sites will be conducted at Granite City and Belleville West. Other participating schools in sub-sectional A are: Belleville East, West, Chatham Glenwood, Collinsville, East St. Louis, Edwardsville, O'Fallon, Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy. Those teams will feed into the Illinois Wesleyan Super-Sectional.
The Civic Memorial Eagles are in sub-sectional B of the 3A Benton Sectional. The two regional sites will be at Salem and Triad. The Eagles are in a pool with: Cahokia, Centralia, Effingham, Highland, Jersey, Mascoutah, Mount Vernon, Olney (Richland County), Salem and Triad. The super-sectional is at a site yet to be determined.
In 2A, the Marquette Catholic Explorers, EA-WR and Roxana were all placed in sub-sectional A of the Campbell Hill (Trico) Sectional. The regional sites are Breese Central and Dupo. Other teams cast in the sub-sectional are: Althoff, Central, Mater Dei, Carlyle, Dupo, Nashville and Wesclin. The teams feed into the Jacksonville Super-Sectional at Illinois College.
In boys' basketball, starting with Class 4A, the Alton Redbirds and Granite City Warriors will battle in sub-sectional B of the Collinsville Sectional. Regional hosts are Alton and East St. Louis. The other sub-sectional B teams are: Belleville East, Belleville West, Chatham Glenwood, Collinsville, East Side, Edwardsville, O'Fallon and Quincy. The super-sectional will be at Illinois State University.
CM is cast in the 3A Highland Sectional. As part of sub-sectional A, regional sites will be at Triad and Columbia. Other teams included are: Althoff, Mater Dei, Cahokia, Columbia, Freeburg, Highland, Jersey, Mascoutah, Triad and Waterloo. They feed into the Springfield Super-Sectional at the Prairie Capitol Convention Center.
Marquette has bumped back down to 2A in boys' basketball this season and joins the Oilers and Shells in sub-sectional B of the Pinckneyville Sectional. Regional sites are set for Dupo and Sparta. The rest of the pool includes: Campbell Hill (Trico), Chester, Dupo DuQuoin, Pinckneyville, Red Bud and Sparta. The Carbondale Super-Sectional at SIU Arena serves as the next postseason stop.
