CHAMPAIGN – The 2014 Fighting Illini Caravan schedule has been announced with stops at five locations across Illinois and in St. Louis throughout May.
The Caravan begins May 1-2 in Chicago and ends May 29-30 in St. Louis, with visits to the Quad Cities on May 8, Peoria on May 15 and Springfield on May 20 in between.
“The Fighting Illini Caravan season is an exciting time for me and our coaches as we get to engage with some of our most passionate fans,” University of Illinois director of athletics Mike Thomas said. “Our coaches and student-athletes look forward to the interaction with our fans at each of the stops, and I believe the fans we meet come away with a positive experience as well, as they have the opportunity to interact with each of the Illini representatives.”
Thomas will be joined on the Caravan by football coach Tim Beckman, men’s basketball coach John Groce, women’s basketball coach Matt Bollant, and a number of additional Illini coaches and student-athletes.
The Fighting Illini Caravan is scheduled in conjunction with Illini Day at Wrigley Field on May 2 and Illini Night at Busch Stadium on May 30.
The statewide tour will feature appearances and community service visits in each city, followed by a reception where fans can interact with Illini coaches and student-athletes.
Fans can purchase reception tickets online at http://fightingillini.com/caravan or by calling (217) 333-6595. The reception will include hors d’oeuvres, an autograph session, an opportunity to talk with Illini coaches, plus raffles and giveaways.
