Alton High School will be offering six weeks of specialized wrestling camps beginning in June at AHS.
The Redbird Wrestling Academy (R.A.W.) is for kids from kindergarten through eighth grade for the '14-15 school year and for Alton School District 11 students only.
The camps will run Monday-Thursday for six weeks. Interested grapplers can choose any one of the six camps, or attend all six weeks. All sessions will be conducted at the wrestling room at AHS. Games, recreation, competition and breaks will be built into the daily schedule.
Learn the nuances of wrestling and a system that will expand wrestling skill sets to set the stage for success. A different series of techniques will be taught each week. Cost is $75 per week.

All payments are due on or before the Monday of the week/session that the wrestler is attending. Checks are payable to Alton wrestling.
The R.A.W daily schedule includes:
8-8:30 a.m. — arrival/dropoff
8:30-9:30 a.m. — technique session
9:30-10 a.m. — break
10-11 a.m. — strength/agility training
11 a.m. to noon — technique/competition
noon to 1:15 p.m. — lunch (all wrestlers should pack a cooler for lunch)
1:30-2:30 p.m. — technique
2:30-3:30 p.m. — break/recess time
3-3:30 p.m — competition
3:30-4 p.m. — pickup (no later than 4 p.m.)
Week 1 (June 15-18) — Takedowns/leg attacks
Inside step, head position, doubles, singles, single leg sweep, elbow passes, all finishes
Week 2 (June 22-25) — Short Offense
Front headlock series, crusher, nearside cradle series and finishes
Week 3 (June 29-July 2) — Tilts and Turns
Cross wrist series, roll through tilt, chop tilt, inside wrist tilt, ball and chain, step through turk series
Week 4 (July 6-9) — Top Pinning Holds
Crossface series, butcher, hip smash, butcher to crusher, rip off, crossface cradle series
Week 5 (July 13-16) — Advanced TOP Work
Arm bar series, bar and wrist, arm bar tilt, bar and hook, stack, double arm bars, inside wrist series, gable, tilt, hammer locks
Week 6 (July 20-24) — Bottom Work
Knee slide stand up, power stand up, beat the pressure, switch series, Granby series, shoulder roll, flip Granby, five-point Granby finishes
