ALTON 4, ALTHOFF 1 — For the second time in 24 hours, the Redbirds beat another Belleville team on Wednesday. This time, Alton knocked off Althoff at home.
The Redbirds beat Belleville East on Tuesday in their Southwestern Conference opener.
Steven Nguyen, C.J. Nasello, Skylar Funk and Logan Clark scored goals for the Redbirds, who outshout Althoff 29-12. With the win over the Crusaders, Alton improved to 6-1 and will play at O’Fallon on Thursday.
EDWARDSVILLE 3, GIBAULT 0 — The Tigers improved to 6-0-1 with the win over Gibault on Wednesday.
Edwardsville picked up its fourth shutout in five games. Daniel Picchiotti made three saves in goal.
Michael Glisson, Michael Picchiotti and Bayne Noll scored goals for the Tigers, who will compete in the Morton Tournament this weekend.
FREEBURG 1, EA-WR 0 — The Oilers dropped to 5-3 with a loss to Freeburg at home on Wednesday.
All three of EA-WR’s losses this season were by shutout. The Oilers were also blanked by Breese Central and Lincolnwood earlier this season.
EA-WR plays at Lebanon at 11 a.m. Saturday.
GRANITE CITY DEF. METRO-EAST LUTHERAN 25-20, 26-24 – The Warriors improved to 5-3 with a road victory over the Knights on Wednesday.
In the second game, Granite City came back from a 17-13 deficit to win the game and match.
The Warriors will play at Collinsville on Thursday in their Southwestern Conference opener. MELHS, which dropped to 3-6, will play its next match on Wednesday against Gibault at home.
GLENWOOD DEF. ALTON 25-17, 25-19 – The Redbirds dropped to 7-2 with a loss to the Titans on the road.
Sydney Schmidt had four kills and five assists for Alton, which had its seven-match winning streak snapped.
Both of the Redbirds’ losses came on the road. They started their season on Aug. 22 with a loss to Columbia.
Alton will play in the Alton Invitational this weekend. The Redbirds play Carrollton and Fort Zumwalt North on Friday and Roxana, Jersey and Civic Memorial on Saturday.
JERSEY DEF. MARQUETTE 19-25, 28-26, 25-13 — Kate Cogan had seven kills, Laura Hamilton had 25 digs and Marissa Nosco finished with 16 assists, but their efforts weren’t enough for the Explorers to beat the Panthers on Wednesday on the road.
Marquette, which is now 5-4, will play Cahokia at 8 a.m. Saturday at the EA-WR/Marquette Tournament.
EDWARDSVILLE 164, ALTON 193 — The Tigers improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play with a win over the Redbirds on Wednesday at Oak Brook Golf Club.
Senior Kayla Weinacht shot an even-par 36 to lead Edwardsville, which will play in the O’Fallon Tournament on Friday at Tamarack Golf Course.
Alton was led by Morgan Bemis with a 44 and Annie Maynard with 46. The Redbirds, who dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play, will also play in the O’Fallon Tournament on Friday.
BELLEVILLE EAST 185, GRANITE CITY 224 — Megan Keel shot a 47 to lead the Warriors in the loss to Belleville East on Wednesday at the Legacy.
Freshman Caroline Reynolds finished with a 58 and senior Emma Sturdivant shot a 59 for Granite City, which will compete in the O’Fallon Tournament on Friday at Tamarack Golf Course.
HIGHLAND 5, ALTON 4 — The Redbirds dropped to 3-3 with a non-conference loss to Highland on Wednesday at home.
The Bulldogs took two out of three doubles matches to get the win.
Abby Fischer and Hannah Macias won in No. 1 doubles and Maddie Saenz got a victory in No. 5 singles.
Alton will play in the Triad Invitational on Saturday.
TRIAD 9, CIVIC MEMORIAL 0 — The Eagles dropped to 1-1 in Mississippi Valley Conference play with a loss to the Knights on Wednesday at home.
CM started its season on Aug. 18 with a 7-2 win over Waterloo.
The Eagles’ next match will be Monday at Granite City.
