ALTON LOSES ON BUZZER BEATER IN TITLE GAME — The Alton Redbirds were unsuccessful in winning the Team Works Invitational in Washington on Monday.
After defeating East Peoria 67-39 in the afternoon, Alton lost on a buzzer beater to host Washington 45-44 on Monday evening.
The Redbirds are now 17-4 on the season after splitting the two games.
AHS senior Carlos Anderson was named to the All-Tournament team.
Alton is now idle until 7:30 p.m. Saturday when it travels to Quincy to take on the Blue Devils.
MARQUETTE SLIPS UP AGAINST QND — The Marquette Catholic Explorers dropped to 0-2 at the Jersey Invitational on Monday, losing to Quincy Notre Dame 54-48.
With the loss, the Explorers sank to 13-6 overall on the season. They get today off before battling Collinsville at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Jerseyville.
Against QND, only three Marquette players contributed offensively. Shandon Boone led the way with 19 points, while Jacob Fischer poured in 15 and Max Goepel scored 14 points.
CM DISMANTLES FREEBURG — The Civic Memorial Eagles traveled to Freeburg on Monday and came away with a commanding 57-18 victory.
The Eagles improved to 15-5 on the season with the triumph. CM raced out to a 31-10 halftime lead and cruised to the win.
Allie Troeckler paced the Eagles with 18 points and five steals. Kately Turbyfill netted 11 points to go with seven rebounds and six steals, Alaira Tyus added eight points and four assists and Journey Coffman had six points and five steals in the win.
CM is back on the court at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, playing host to Columbia.
ALTON DROPS TWO IN WASHINGTON ON MONDAY — The Alton Redbirds wrapped up the Team Works Invitational in Washington with a 1-3 record.
The Redbirds dropped two games on Monday, losing 45-40 to East Peoria and then to host Washington 59-26.
With the pair of defeats, Alton is now 4-15 on the season.
LaJarvia Brown was named to the All-Tournament team for the Redbirds, while Kenya Burnett garnered the Sportsmanship Award.
Alton is back in action at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Southwestern Conference action at Granite City.
