REDBIRDS PREVAIL IN TRIANGULAR AT CLINTON HILLS — The Alton Redbirds traveled to Clinton Hills Country Club in Swansea on Wednesday and came away with a triangular win.
Alton carded a 178 to outdistance Granite City (199) and Belleville East (206). The win over East was a Southwestern Conference victory.
Natalie Long was medalist for AHS with a 42. The rest of the lineup included: Courtney Hachmann (43), Ashley Orr (46) and Morgan Bemis (47).
Alton is back in action at 3:30 p.m. today in the Belleville East Invite.
ALTON COMES UP SHORT IN GRANITE CITY — The Alton Redbirds came up short Wednesday at Legacy Golf Course in Granite City.
The Birds shot a 177 to take second place in the Southwestern Conference dual with the Warriors who fired a 165 as a team.
Nick Jamison led AHS with a 42, while Alex Rubin (44), Max Hunter (45) and Sam Ballard (46) all contributed in the team score. Mitch Klug also played, carding a 52 for the Redbirds.
Granite City's Gavin Grote was medalist with a 39. David Keel (40), Ryan Steen (42) and Johnathan Ozanich (44) rounded out the GCHS scoring.
Next up for Alton is a 3:30 p.m. SWC showdown with O'Fallon on Monday at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course.
REDBIRDS FAIL TO FIGURE OUT LANCERS — The Belleville East Lancers came to Alton on Wednesday and proved to be too much for the Redbirds.
East defeated the Birds 7-2 in Southwestern Conference action at AHS.
Wins for Alton came from Janelle Wilson at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 and then at No. 1 doubles where Wilson paired up with Shannon Willis to prevail 6-2, 6-3.
With the loss, the Redbirds are now 8-5 on the season. They welcome East St. Louis at 4 p.m. today and will then play host to the River Bend Tournament beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday in three locations, Gordon Moore Park, Rock Spring Park and AHS.
ALTON HEADED INTO TOURNAMENT TITLE TILT — The Alton Redbirds dismissed Hazelwood Central 2-0 on Wednesday to earn a spot in the finals of the McCluer Invitational.
The win improved the Redbirds to 5-4-1 on the season and came on the heels of an 8-1 pounding of Lutheran North on Monday to start the tourney.
Carl Stradal scored both goals in Alton's win over Central, while Micah Wrigley notched an assist and goalie Shane Bollini garnered the shutout victory.
AHS will square off with St. Charles Lutheran in the finals at 7:45 p.m. Friday at Eagan Civic Center Fields in Florissant.
