ALTON WINS TRIANGULAR OVER ALTHOFF AND COLUMBIA — The Alton Redbirds competed in a triangular on Wednesday at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo and came away with a win.
The Redbirds carded a 162, out shooting Althoff (167) and Columbia (222). Tori Hays led the way for AHS, garnering medalist honors shooting a 1-under-35.
Hays was joined in the team scoring by Natalie Long (37), Courtney Hachmann (38) and Ashley Orr (52). Long and Hachmann finished second and third individually overall in scoring, too.
Alton is back in action at Cloverleaf Golf Course in Alton at 4 p.m. today against Civic Memorial.
CM PREVAILS IN QUADRANGULAR — The Civic Memorial Eagles welcomed Highland, Collinsville and Jerseyville to Cloverleaf Golf Course on Wednesday and finished on top.
The Eagles fired a 175 to earn the team title. Highland took second with a 178, while Collinsville was third with a 191 and Jerseyville carded a 212. CM is now 11-1 on the season.
CM's Allison Hemingway was medalist, carding a 5-over-40. She was joined in the scoring for the Eagles by: Sara Gwillim (41), Kayla Slavens (47) and Lisa Logterman (47).
Next up for CM are the Alton Redbirds at 4 p.m. today at Cloverleaf.
ALTON DROPS DUAL TO EAST BY SCORECARD PLAYOFF — The Alton Redbirds dropped a tough loss to the Belleville East Lancers at Clinton Hills Country Club on Wednesday.
Both teams carded 168s, but the Southwestern Conference dual was decided by the sixth player on a scorecard playoff.
Alex Rubin of the Redbirds earned medalist honors with a 1-over-36. He was joined in the scoring by Sam Ballard (41), Mitch Klug (45), Andrew Campbell (46) and Dustin Richards (47). Jacob Skrabacz was the sixth score with a 55.
East's sixth score was a 49.
Alton is now idle until the Mattoon Invite at 1 p.m. on Sept. 12.
ROXANA PICKS UP WIN IN CARLINVILLE TOURNEY — The Roxana Shells earned a 2-0 win over Litchfield Wednesday in the Carlinville Tournament.
The Shells received goals from Drew Ratcliff and Tyler Spano, while Austin Presley garnered the shutout victory in goal.
Roxana is 1-1-1 in the tournament so far. The Shells are back in action against tournament host Carlinville at 6 p.m. tonight.
MARQUETTE TIES WITH GIBAULT — The Marquette Catholic Explorers and Gibault Hawks finished in a 2-2 stalemate Wednesday in Waterloo.
The Explorers picked up two first-half goals, the first from Jon Stewart on assist from Matt Buchheit and the second from Zach Weinman on a pass from Alex Davis. Unfortunately, Gibault answered with two second-half goals to tie it up.
Brandon Sanfilippo logged 10 saves in goal for Marquette in the tie, too.
With the tie, Marquette is now 1-2-1 on the young season.
ALTON DROPS A DUAL TO ALTHOFF — The Alton Redbirds suffered their first setback of the season Wednesday on the road.
The Crusaders edged the Redbirds 5-4 at Althoff, dropping them to 3-1 on the season.
AHS received a 6-1,6-0 win from Janelle Wilson at No. 1 singles, while Emily Formea won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Sofia Macias prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles, Wilson and Mary McDaniel picked up the other win for the Redbirds 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2.
Alton returns to the courts at 1 p.m. Friday in the Heather Bradshaw Tournament in Edwardsville. The tournament will conclude on Saturday.
ROXANA FALLS TO WATERLOO — The Roxana Shells played host to Waterloo on Wednesday, but failed to come away with a home win.
The Bulldogs defeated the Shells 6-3. With the loss, Roxana slipped to .500 at 2-2 on the season.
The Shells got wins from: Georgia Ballard and Haley Milazzo in singles and Sydney Owsley and Milazzo in doubles action.
Roxana is back in action at 4:30 p.m. today at Metro East Lutheran.
EA-WR CANCELS TODAY'S MATCH WITH HILLSBORO — With the heat index to reach over 100 today, East Alton-Wood River athletic director Adam Miller announced the Oilers' match with Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m. today has been postponed.
The match is rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at EA-WR.
