ALTON POWERS PAST CM — The Alton Redbirds visited Civic Memorial Monday and posted a 7-2 victory.
Alton got wins in singles action from: Shannon Willis 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 1, Mary McDaniel 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3, Addie Schenk 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Sofia Macias 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Redbirds swept the Eagles in doubles. Willis and Abby Fischer prevailed 8-2 at No. 1, McDaniel and Emily Formea picked up an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Schenk and Macias came out on top 8-2 at No. 3.
The Birds are now 14-8 on the season. Next up for AHS is a showdown with Southwestern Conference foe Belleville West at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Alton.
ALTON STYMIES JERSEY — The Alton Redbirds had little trouble in Jerseyville on Monday.
The Redbirds received a trio of goals from Eric Ferenbach and blanked the Jersey Panthers 5-0 to improve to 8-4-3.
Drew Hays and Kain Henson added goals, while Ferenbach, Brad Leonard and Nick Hatfield supplied assists. Shane Bollini logged the shutout in goal.
Alton now plays host to Belleville West at 6:45 p.m. tonight for its Senior Night.
EA-WR LOSES TO FREEBURG — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers traveled to Freeburg on Monday and came up short.
The Midgets defeated the Oilers 4-1, after taking a comfortable 3-1 lead into halftime. EA-WR dropped to 9-6 with the loss.
Next up for the Oilers is a matchup with rival Marquette at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
CM CAN'T SOLVE WATERLOO — The woes continued for the Civic Memorial Eagles Monday, losing 5-0 to the visiting Waterloo Bulldogs.
The loss sank CM to 2-15 on the season and 0-8 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.
The Eagles now play Triad at 5:30 p.m. today on the road.
MASCOUTAH CRUISES PAST SHELLS — Roxana couldn't protect its home field Monday vs. the Mascoutah Indians.
The Indians cruised past the Shells 10-0 in Roxana, picking up six second-half goals.
Roxana plays at Marquette at 4:30 p.m. today.
EA-WR SWEEPS VISITING LITCHFIELD — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers swept the visiting Litchfield Purple Panthers 25-11, 25-13 on Monday at Memorial Gym.
Kari Westbrook paced the Oilers with 15 assists and four aces in the win, while Lexie Johnson had 14 service points, three aces and four kills, Brittany Grayson had four kills, Chrissy Long put up four blocks and Heather Martin posted 11 service points.
EA-WR is at Carlinville at 6 p.m. tonight.
MARQUETTE STUMBLES VS. MELHS — The Marquette Catholic Explorers stumbled on Monday at home vs. Metro East Lutheran.
The Knights defeated the Explorers 25-19, 25-23.
Statistically, Alyssa Herzing paced the offense with six assists, while also compiling a team-high four aces. Anna Daugherty led the attack with five kills, Taylor Rook and Brittany Pace and four blocks apiece, three solos and one assist, and Daugherty and Katie Gierer led the way with three digs each.
Marquette is back at home at 6 p.m. tonight vs. Valmeyer.
