ALTON FALLS TO WEST, 5-4 — Rain couldn't wash out Alton's boys' tennis match at Belleville West, but unfortunately the sun still didn't shine on the Redbirds in a 5-4 loss.
With the setback AHS fell to 4-14 overall on the season and 3-4 in the Southwestern Conference.
Wins for the Birds came from Carl Stradal, Jackson Scheiter and Kain Henson in singles. Stradal teamed with Drew Hays in doubles to log the other Alton win.
The Redbirds are back in action at Illinois State University in Normal today, taking on Normal University High and Normal West.
CLASS 1A CM REGIONAL BEGINS TODAY — The postseason begins for four Greater Alton area girls' soccer programs today at the Bethalto Sports Complex.
The Class 1A Civic Memorial Regional begins at 4:30 p.m. today, pitting No. 1 seed Marquette Catholic (11-5-3) against No. 4 seed East Alton-Wood River (6-13-0). The Explorers and Oilers met during the regular season on April 14 with Marquette prevailing 7-0.
The second game of the night pits No. 2 seeded CM (9-7-1) against No. 3 Roxana (12-6-0) at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles defeated the Shells 4-1 in their prior meeting on March 17.
The winners from tonight will meet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the regional final.
