CM SLIPS BY TRIAD IN OT — The Civic Memorial Eagles evened their season record at 1-1 Tuesday, but it wasn't easy.
It took the Eagles overtime to get by Mississippi Valley Conference rival Triad 36-34 on the road Tuesday as part of the Stove Top Stuffing Tournament. The game also counted toward the MVC standings.
CM's Zach Lehnen led the offensive charge with 10 points, while senior Jakob Lowrance chipped in seven points, but yanked down a game-high 16 rebounds.
Triad's Noah Moss led all scorers with 12 points.
The Eagles led 25-22 entering the fourth quarter, but were outscored 12-9 to force the extra frame. CM scored the only two points in overtime to secure the victory.
Next up for the Eagles is Nokomis at 6 p.m. Friday at Granite City. CM closes the tournament with the host Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
MARQUETTE BEATS GILLESPIE — The Marquette Catholic Explorers welcomed the Gillespie Miners on Tuesday and sent them packing with a 48-40 loss.
Marquette improved to 3-2 with the win, while Gillespie sank to 0-3.
Andria Pace directed the Explorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while twin sister Brittany matched her on points with 14. Caitlyn Hanlon also reached double-digit scoring, netting 10 points.
Marquette now sits idle until 7:30 p.m. Monday when it plays host to Litchfield.
MELHS ROLLS PAST EA-WR — The Metro East Lutheran Knights played ungracious hosts to the East Alton-Wood River Oilers on Tuesday at SIUE, taking home the victory.
Metro rolled a 2,164 to distance itself from the 2,125 of the Oilers.
Seth Stanley paced EA-WR with a 501 series in the loss. Tyler Hayes (497), Anthony Lane (389), Justin Brown (374) and Zach Hudson (364) rounded out the bowlers for the Oilers.
EA-WR is back on the lanes at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Triad.
