Civic Memorial Eagles
CM GETS BY MELHS AND EA-WR — The Civic Memorial Eagles traveled to Belk Park Golf Course in Wood River on Thursday and came away with a triangular win.
CM posted a 174 to slip by Metro East Lutheran (179) and host East Alton-Wood River (196).
The Eagles improved to 7-1 in dual action in 2014 with the win. Alec Hilliard paced CM with a 41. The rest of the scoring came from: J. Waters (44), Konnar Loewen (44) and Eric Howes (45).
Drew Sobol and Brett Gaines of EA-WR shared medalist honors. Hunter O'Brien (44) and Brandon Allen (72) rounded out the scoring for the Oilers, who are now 11-3 on the season.
MARQUETTE WINS QUAD AT ROLLING HILLS — The Marquette Catholic Explorers ran their dual record to 11-0 Thursday at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey.
The Explorers carded a 154, led by medalist Michael Holtz who recorded a 1-under 35, a bogey free round.
The rest of the field rounded out with: Jersey (167), Roxana (172) and Valmeyer (243).
Holtz was joined by Andrew McCluskey (38), Nick Messinger (39) and Steve Elliott (42) to round out the scoring for Marquette.
The Shells were led by Zach Moore with a 40.
The Explorers are back in action at 10 a.m. Saturday playing host to the All-Catholic Tournament at Lockhaven.
ALTON KEEPS ROLLING IN O'FALLON — The Alton Redbirds traveled to Tamarack Country Club in O'Fallon on Thursday and came away with a win.
Alton turned in a team score of 169 while the O'Fallon Panthers carded a 180.
Tori Hays garnered medalist honors for the Birds with a 38. Other scorers for AHS were: Courtney Hachmann (40), Natalie Long (45) and Ashley Orr (46).
EAGLES SOAR TO VICTORY — The Civic Memorial Eagles played host to a quadrangular on Thursday at Cloverleaf Golf Course and picked up the win.
CM carded a 194, besting Roxana (209), Staunton (219) and Litchfield (221).
Sara Gwillim of the Eagles was the medalist with a 41. Rounding out the scoring for CM were: Allison Hemingway (45), Kayla Slavens (50) and Izzy Roberts (58).
The Shells were led by 48s from Andrea Mellenthin and Miranda Cunningham. Lindsey Chapman (53) and Bailey Sharpnack (60) also contributed to the score.
MARQUETTE STUMBLES IN TRIANGULAR — The Marquette Catholic Explorers welcomed Edwardsville and Carrollton to Lockhaven in Godfrey Thursday and came up a little short.
The Tigers won the triangular with a 183. Carrollton was second with a 188, while the Explorers shot a 190 to finish third.
The highlight of the day for Marquette was Brittany Barta, who took away medalist honors with a 42.
ROXANA TOPS GREENVILLE — The Roxana Shells played host to Greenville Thursday and picked up a victory.
Roxana topped the Comets 5-4 to improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Shells got wins in singles from Sydney Owsley, Anna Ballard and Geogia Ballard. In doubles, the Ballards teamed up to win while Owsley paired up with Haley Milazzo to grab a win for Roxana.
ALTON CAN'T FIGURE OUT EDWARDSVILLE — The Alton Redbirds visited the EHS Tennis Center in Edwardsville Thursday, but couldn't topple the talented Tigers.
Edwardsville ran past the Redbirds 9-0 in Southwestern Conference dual action. Alton's Janelle Wilson forced a third-set tiebreaker against EHS' Callaghan Adams at No. 1 singles, but ultimately lost 1-6, 6-2 (10-8).
With the loss Alton slipped to 6-5 on the season.
EA-WR'S FULKERSON FINISHES TOP 10 AT TIGER FALL CLASSIC — East Alton-Wood River sophomore Garrett Fulkerson turned in a time of 17:44.95 Thursday at the Tigers Fall Classic at SIUE to nab 10th place.
Fulkerson was the only Oiler to compete in the race, which was won by host Edwardsville with 19 team points. Brydon Groves-Scott of the Tigers finished in first place individually with a time of 16:17.50.
CM'S SINGLETON WINS RACE AT SOUTHWESTERN — Alex Singleton led the Civic Memorial Eagles past Southwestern in girls' cross country Thursday in Brighton.
Singleton took first place in 20:30 as the Eagles tallied 24 team points to beat the Piasa Birds (33).
On the boys' side, Ryan Gunter steered CM to victory over Southwestern.
Gunter raced to first in a time of 17:33. The Eagles compiled 19 points, while the Piasa Birds earned 44.
LATE GOAL BY ALTON ISN'T ENOUGH AT O'FALLON — The Alton Redbirds couldn't pick up a Southwestern Conference win on Thursday at O'Fallon.
The Redbirds sank to 2-3-2 overall and 1-2 in the SWC with the loss.
Alton's lone goal came from Carl Stradal in the second half on an assist from Brad Leonard. The Panthers improved to 2-1-0 overall and 1-1 in the SWC with the win.
MARQUETTE GETS BLANKED BY BELLEVILLE EAST — The Marquette Catholic Explorers couldn't find the back of the net Thursday at Gordon Moore Park.
Two first-half goals from Belleville East held up as the Explorers fell 2-0 to the Lancers at home.
Faris Al-Ghussain and Brendan Heins scored goals for East in the win.
Brandon Sanfilippo corralled eight saves in the loss for Marquette.
The Explorers sank to 2-5-1 with the loss, while East is now 4-5 on the season.
CM GETS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON — The Civic Memorial Eagles went on the road to Breese Central Thursday and earned their second win of the season.
CM improved to 2-5 on the young season, besting the Cougars 3-1 with two first-half goals and an insurance goal in the second half.
