BIG OFFENSIVE CONTRIBUTIONS LEAD CM TO MVC VICTORY — Eight Civic Memorial Eagles contributed offensively as the Eagles defeated Waterloo on the road in Mississippi Valley Conference action on Monday.
CM led 42-29 at halftime and cruised to a 79-62 win over the Bulldogs. The Eagles improved to 20-6 overall and 5-2 in the MVC with the victory.
Allie Troeckler poured in 28 points to go with seven rebounds, six steals and four assists to lead CM. Katelyn Turbyfill posted a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Journey Coffman netted eight points. Other offensive contributors were: Alaira Tyus with seven points, Elizabeth Buckley and Kayln Troxell with six each, Monica Baker with three and Cassie Hall with one.
The Eagles are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Jersey.
EA-WR FALLS TO STAUNTON — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers visited Staunton on Monday and came away with a 38-30 loss.
The Oilers trailed 11-9 after one quarter, 23-14 at the half and 31-20 after three frames. They recovered to outscore the Bulldogs 10-7 in the fourth quarter, but it was too late.
EA-WR has two regular season games remaining on the docket, welcoming Metro East Lutheran in Prairie State Conference action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and playing host to Brussels at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Oilers then delve into the Class 2A Carlyle Regional at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, battling rival Roxana to open the playoffs.
2A NORTH ALL-STARS BEAT SOUTH ALL-STARS — The 2A North All-Stars got past the 2A South All-Stars 7-3 Monday at the East Alton Ice Arena with a little fun before gearing up for the MVCHA postseason.
Alton's Tyler St. Peters got the starting nod in goal with teammate Mitch Klug relieving him in the second period.
Jake Bohn of the Redbirds got in the scoring action with a late first period goal, while AHS teammate Alex Rubin picked up three assists in the game and Alton's Kain Henson dished out one assist.
The Redbirds will now turn their attention to the 2A North Division playoffs, which get underway at 8:45 p.m. Thursday when Alton battles Collinsville at EIA. Game 2 is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Jan. 9 and Game 3 is on the docket for 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 16 if necessary.
EA-WR FALLS TO PANA — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers stumbled on the lanes at Pana on Monday.
EA-WR corralled a total of 1,826 pins to come up short to Pana's 2,268.
The Oilers were led by Shelby Yarbrough's 463 series. Sammy Johnson was next with a 441. Yarbrough and Johnson tied for top game honors for EA-WR, each rolling 167s. Other bowlers on Monday for the Oilers were: Leslie Dixon (375), Kiara McCarvey (299) and Megan Huebner (248).
EA-WR is back on the lanes at 4 p.m. today at Metro East Lutheran.
