CM PICKS UP MVC WIN OVER TRIAD IN OT — It took an extra frame on Monday at Triad, but the Civic Memorial Eagles pulled out a 57-51 win in Mississippi Valley Conference action.
The Eagles clung to a 28-23 lead at halftime, despite the Knights burying six first-half 3-pointers. Triad hit eight treys in the game.
At the end of regulations CM found itself in a 41-41 stalemate, but the Eagles took over in overtime. CM outscored Triad 16-10 in the extra stanza, going 10 of 11 from the charity stripe.
Allie Troeckler paced the Eagles with a double double, netting 22 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Alaira Tyus chipped in with 17 points, highlighted by a trio of 3-pointers, while Katelyn Turbyfill added eight points in the win.
With the victory the Eagles improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the MVC. The loss dropped Triad to 3-3 and 0-3 in league action.
Next up for CM is a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday at home against Mater Dei.
MARQUETTE FALLS TO HILLSBORO — The Marquette Catholic Explorers fell to visiting Hillsboro 51-46 on Monday despite a monster effort from Brittany Pace.
Pace poured in a team-high 22 points while yanking down 20 rebounds. She had 11 offensive boards and nine defensive boards.
The loss sank the Explorers under .500 on the season at 3-4. They are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Jerseyville.
