SHELLS BEAT MINUTEMAIDS – Hannah Rexford had everything going her way Tuesday for the Roxana Shells.
The freshman left-hander spun a two-hitter and struck out nine in hurling the Shells past Bunker Hill, 9-0, in a nonconference game.
With the lopsided victory, Roxana improved to 6-7. Phoebe Boomer, another freshman, paced the offense with a home run and four RBIs. Teammate Abbey Palen drove in two runs.
EXPLORERS COAST TO WIN – The Explorers needed only five inning to wallop Gibault in Waterloo, 14-1.
Freshman Meghan Schorman led the winners on two fronts. He gave up one hit over two innings and logged the victory. Megan Wittich worked the final three innings and didn’t allow a hit as Marquette lifted its record to 10-4. The Explorers have won three consecutive games.
Schorman also contributed three hits, one a home run. She batted in five runs. Teammate Grace Frost collected three hits and two RBIs. Wittich supplied two hits and batted in three runs.
PIASA BIRDS TOP EAGLES – Host Southwestern grabbed an early lead and bested Civic Memorial, 8-4, in a nonconference contest.
Ashley Ringhausen hit a solo home run and Meghan Peuterbaugh knocked in two runs to pace the 2-4 Piasa Birds. Cassie Albers doubled and drove home a run for the Eagles. Teammate Chloe Jennings and Kalyn Haar both chipped in with RBIs.
OILERS FALL TO BRUSSELS – The Raiders, who defeated Alton on Monday, downed East Alton-Wood River, 3-1, on Tuesday. Losing pitcher Tori Beachum struck out nine as the Oilers dropped to 5-10.
REDBIRDS BOW TO WEST – Alton slipped to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the Southwestern Conference after the Redbirds lost in a Southwestern Conference game at Belleville.
Brittany Roady absorbed the defeat as AHS suffered its fourth consecutive setback. The Maroons, improving to 9-4, rode the stout pitching of McKenzie Sisk. She twirled a three-hitter.
OILERS BLANKED – EA-WR tumbled to 3-14 after the Oilers lost to host Brussels, 3-0, in a nonconference game. They are scheduled to play host to CM in a 4:15 game Friday.
EXPLORERS OVERPOWER OILERS – Marquette shut out EA-WR, 7-0, in a match at Moore Park. The Oilers sank to 2-7.
The Explorers, who improved to 5-2-2, go to Litchfield on Thursday and then meet Roxana on Monday at Soccer Park in Wood River.
LANCERS SHADE REDBIRDS – Host Belleville East outscored Alton, 3-2 in SWC competition.
The Redbirds, coming off a 2-0 home victory Saturday against Jacksonville, slipped to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the league. East is 7-4 and 1-2.
It’s back to conference competition Thursday when Alton travels to Collinsville. The Kahoks are 8-1-2 and atop the SWC standings at 4-0-0.
SHELLS FALL – Visiting Pana beat Roxana, 2-0, in a South Central Conference match at Soccer Park in Wood River. The Panthers improved to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the SCC. The Shells dropped to 6-3 and 2-2.
Roxana is slated to welcome Carlinville on Thursday and Marquette on Monday.
BULLDOGS SINK EAGLES – Waterloo cruised past CM, 7-0 in a Mississippi Valley Conference match. Triad blasted Jersey, 14-0, in another conference affair.
The Eagles, 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the Valley, play host to Mascoutah on Wednesday and go to Jersey on Monday. They are scheduled to entertain EA-WR next Tuesday.
