SHELLS FINISH THIRD IN SCC TOURNAMENT — The Roxana Shells fired a 357 on Monday at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield to finish third in the South Central Conference Tournament.
Greenville won the tourney, carding a 327, while Hillsboro was runner-up with a 341. The rest of the field rounded out with Vandalia, Pana, Litchfield, Southwestern and Staunton.
Zack Moore paced the Shells, shooting a 79. Zack Carlisle was second on Roxana with an 85. Both players earned spots on the SCC All-Conference team. Joe Ingram (94) and Scott Anderson (99) also figured into the team scoring for the Shells.
Roxana will host a Class 2A regional at Belk Park Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Greenville, Hillsboro and Southwestern will join the Shells from the SCC. Marquette Catholic, Civic Memorial, Breese Central, Highland, Jersey and Triad will comprise the rest of the tournament field.
EA-WR PICKS UP A WIN — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers improved to 8-4 on Monday at home, picking up a 4-2 victory over Greenville.
Next up for the Oilers is a 4 p.m. game today at North Tech. They will then play host to Carlinville at 7 p.m. Thursday in EA-WR's Homecoming Game due to the fact the football game between the Oilers and Metro East Lutheran Knights has been canceled on Friday. MELHS is forfeiting the football game.
EA-WR STUMBLES TO JERSEY — The East Alton-Wood River Oilers couldn't solve the visiting Jersey Panthers on Monday in Wood River.
The Panthers defeated the Oilers in straight games, 25-20, 25-18. Lia Roundcount of Jersey produced five kills in the win.
EA-WR is back on the court at 6 p.m. today, playing host to Gillespie.
