ROXANA BATTLES BY GILLESPIE — The Roxana Shells traveled to Gillespie on Monday and picked up a 46-38 South Central Conference victory.
With the win the Shells improved to 11-8 overall and climbed to .500 at 3-3 in the SCC.
Senior Maddy Sheraka paced Roxana with 20 points in the victory, while Sara Kreutzrager joined her in double digits with 10 points. Hannah Rexford chipped in eight points in the triumph, too.
Next up for the Shells is a SCC game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Hillsboro.
MARQUETTE HITS ROADBLOCK AT MATER DEI — The Marquette Catholic Explorers ran into trouble Monday night in Breese, stumbling in a 63-22 loss to the Mater Dei Knights.
The Knights jumped out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter and raced ahead 27-9 at halftime in a tough night for the Explorers.
Three Mater Dei players, Logan Braundmeier, Lauren Donnewald and Elle Evischi, each scored 10 points to lead the way in the win.
Marquette received seven points from Brittany Pace to guide the offense in the loss.
Next up for the Explorers is a Prairie State Conference showdown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive.
ALTON STUMBLES VS. O'FALLON — The Alton Redbirds suffered through a rough night in a 3-1 loss to O'Fallon on Monday at the Granite City Ice Rink.
O'Fallon skated out to a 2-0 lead. Alton's Alex Rubin cut it to 2-1 midway through the third quarter, but the Panthers tacked on an insurance goal to secure the victory. Kain Henson and Jake Cunningham assisted on Rubin's goal.
Each team had 26 shots on goal.
The Redbirds are now 9-4 on the season and will play Collinsville at 8:15 p.m. tonight in Granite City.
